Report on the Club representatives'
meeting

A
meeting to discuss the Strategy Proposals from the Board of the English Bridge Union was held on Friday 14 September, and was attended by representatives of 21 affiliated clubs.   The evening started with a summary of the EBU/County meeting, which had been attended by Richard Green and Alaric Cundy.

Many points were raised regarding the actual costings, its effects on the individuals and clubs, why extra members are needed, what is planned by the EBU with the additional funding, education and teaching.   The proposals were thought to be a good idea in principle, but clubs considered that the EBU had not got the information required to produce more accurate costings, and that they do nothing to get people to play bridge or to join clubs.   It is all too nebulous.   On a straw poll, 13 clubs said they were likely to re-affiliate, 6 unlikely to, and 2 could not give an answer at this stage.

In October, all clubs are to be sent a questionnaire electronically, and it is hoped that as many as possible will reply.   Without club input, no true costings can be achieved.

Many thanks are extended to all clubs who replied to the Essex letter, and to those who attended the meeting.
